I purchased this based on the rave reviews that the previous iteration received (Bosch 1590EVSK 6.4 Amp Top Handle Jigsaw) and it did not disappoint. So far, my experience has been one of low vibration with beautiful, clean cuts. Other people have mentioned noise, but I don't feel like it's that loud. The only part of the saw I'm unhappy about is the angle selecting mechanism on the base. There are next to no markings. It'd hard to be sure you've locked it into a vertical position or 45 degree angle. I ended up using a square to be sure that it was set correctly. I don't intend on using this to do precision 45 degree cuts, so it only looses a star.
Otherwise, it's a well made saw.
I've owned a barrel grip Black and Decker (a good one that was still black and made in USA) that finally wore out and I knew I wanted another barrel grip jigsaw. I also knew, having used a Bosch top handle several years ago, that I wanted a Bosch jigsaw. This one was exactly what I wanted.
The Bosch barrel grip can be used for the lightest duty work but given its size and heft this is intended for the kind of heavy duty commercial work I use it for. Fast, Smooth and Powerful sums it up well. Ripping through wood is effortless. I believe this will be the last jigsaw I ever buy.
I should add a note of caution to small handed people. The size of the barrel is pretty big compared to my old Black and Decker. The average adult male will have no problem grasping the barrel. But men with small hands, woman and juveniles may find it to be less ergonomic than the top handle. I prefer the barrel grip because of the compact height and the angle I'm able to hold it at is more comfortable than a top handle. I also feel like I have better control while cutting with a barrel grip as opposed to the top handle.
Comes with a nice hard plastic case and one wood cutting blade. Interior of the case has a place to store blades so they aren't on the loose.
